Look up a plate and send a friendly message in seconds.

Real notes, real situations

Instead of leaving an angry sticky note on a windshield, send a polite, friendly message that actually reaches the driver.

🔦 "Your headlights are on."
Save someone from a dead battery
🚗 "Your trunk is open."
Save them from losing something
🙏 "Thanks for not double-parking!"
Be the nice neighbor
🐶 "Your dog looks hot in the car."
A note that might save a life

How PlatePal works

It takes about thirty seconds. No login required to read this page, but you'll need a free account to send a note.

1

Sign up free

Make an account with your email or Google. Add your own license plate so neighbors can message you back.

2

Enter a plate

Type the plate number and state — or scan it with your camera. PlatePal looks it up.

3

Send your note

Write a polite message. If the owner is on PlatePal, it shows up in their inbox right away. You can stay anonymous if you'd rather.

Why people use it

PlatePal isn't a parking enforcement service or a complaint hotline. It's a quiet, friendly way for neighbors to talk to each other about the cars they share streets with.

🚗

Plate-to-plate messaging

Reach any car's owner — as long as they've signed up too. No phone number, no email needed to message.

📷

Camera plate scanning

Don't want to type? Snap a photo and PlatePal reads the plate for you. Free for everyone.

🥷

Anonymous messages

Toggle anonymous before sending. Your name is replaced with "Anonymous" for that message — but everything stays moderated.

📣

Street alerts

Send a quick alert to everyone on your street — about a road closure, a missing pet, suspicious activity, and more. Add multiple addresses (home + second home or corner) to cover every street you care about.

🔒

Your address stays private

We use your street only to route alerts to the right neighbors. It's never shown publicly. Your password is hashed — we never see it.

📱

Works as a real app

Install PlatePal on your phone or computer — it opens like any other app. Dark mode, notifications, the works.

Parking meter timer

Paid for a meter? Start a timer and we'll alert you 5 minutes before it expires so you can move or top up.

📍

Find my car

Save your parking spot with one tap. Later, "Find my car" opens Google Maps with walking directions back.

Frequently asked questions

Is this an official government app?

No. PlatePal is independent. We have no connection to the DMV, the police, or any parking authority. Messages here are just informal notes between neighbors.

Is it free?

Yes. Completely free. Free to sign up, free to send messages, free to receive notes. No credit card needed.

Can I look up who owns a license plate?

No. PlatePal does not give you the owner's name, address, phone number, or any DMV data. Federal law (the Driver's Privacy Protection Act) protects that information. Messaging works only because the owner themselves has chosen to register their plate on PlatePal — they receive your note in their inbox without revealing who they are to you.

What if the person I want to message isn't on PlatePal yet?

No problem — we'll hold your note safely. The moment that plate gets registered, your message lands in their inbox and they're notified. So it's always worth sending. The more neighbors who join, the faster notes get delivered — and every note you send helps the network grow.

Can people harass me through this?

If someone sends you something inappropriate, you can report the message or block the sender with one tap. Admins review every report. Repeat offenders lose their accounts. We take abuse seriously.

How is my data protected?

Your address is never shown publicly — it's only used to deliver street alerts to the right neighbors. Your password is stored as a salted hash, which means we never see the original. You can request a full data export or delete your account anytime from Settings. See our Privacy Policy for the full picture.

Who built this?

A solo founder who wanted a less hostile way for neighbors to talk about cars. Have a feature idea or a complaint? Reach out via our contact page or the in-app Feedback tab — every message gets read.
